En la media parte del All-Star Game, se anunciaron las 15 mejores jugadoras en la historia de la WNBA. En esta lista se incluyó a Sue Bird, Lauren Jackson y Katie Smith, tres jugadoras que forman parte de la plantilla de las Seattle Storm. En el siguiente artículo se nombran todos los honores de las tres jugadoras, pero aquí solamente pondré la información de Bird.

Bird es campeona de dos anillos de WNBA con las Seattle Storm, uno en la edición de 2004 y otro en la temporda del año pasado (2010).
Sue está jugando su décima temporada en Seattle, y es una de las 7 jugadoras que ha ganado el título de la NCAA (UConn), el anillo de la WNBA y una medalla de oro olímpica. Ha sido incluida en las plantillas de los All-Star en 7 ocasiones (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009 y 2011). Además también fue nombrada dentro del equipo WNBA’s All-Dacade Team en 2006.
Después de ser nombrada, Sue respondió a unas preguntas:

“It’s an honor. It’s a huge honor. You walk into the room right before we got introduced to the crowd and look around, you look at the names. The same way when I got the call. I thought about the others who were probably going to make it. It’s just a tremendous honor just to be in the same breath as those names. There’s no way to describe it. It’s just surreal to be on that list.”
Momento más memorable de toda la carrera
“Just winning. It seems like a cop-out answer. The experience of winning a WNBA championship is… I don’t know if there’s anything like that in basketball right now, aside from the Olympics. I just think it’s the toughest league. It’s got the best talent and winning is not easy. Anyone who’s done it will tell you that. Anyone who’s trying to do that will tell you that. That’s why those two championships stand out.”
Significado de estos 15 años de WNBA
“It kind of goes both ways. There is some significance. It does mean a great deal for this league to make it to your 15. At the same time, it’s more of just a quick celebration knowing that there’s going to probably be 15 more years and 15 more after that. I think this league is headed in the right direction. The talent just gets better and better. Therefore, the product gets better and better.”
Jugadora más influente para su carrera
“If I were to pick it would be my ’04 Olympic experience and Dawn (Staley) was on that team. It was her last Olympics. She was the leader of that team. Watching her and playing alongside her and being able to talk to her was a great experience for me.”
